Join the Team
Being a member of the Avon High School robotics team is a very rewarding experience. It results in fun, friendships, skills, and memories that will last a lifetime. Joining the team is easy! You're already on the team website reading about it, so you're already halfway there. In order to become an official team member, there are a few things you have to do. Go to a Meeting
We have regular meetings on Thursdays during the "offseason" (September through January, May through June). They usually run from 7:00-9:00 pm. Check the calendar on the main page to see when meetings or events are scheduled, particularly if they are extra meetings or events outside of our regular Thursday meetings. During our "main season" (January through April), we have meetings nearly every day. Usually weeknights are Monday through Thursday, 6:30-9:30 pm, Saturdays are 9am-5pm, and Sundays are 12-5pm. Check the calendar for competitions, fundraisers, and extra or cancelled meetings. Fill out the Paperwork
It's not that scary. We just need a bit of information so we can keep you as informed as the rest of the team. All of the paperwork is available for download off of our site. Make sure you fill out the following forms, and return them to the team President (Matt Bedard). We hope to see you soon! Becoming a Sponsor
Thank you for your interest in the Avon High School Robotics Team. Our organization, numbered team 1124, and affectionately nicknamed "The überBots", is a club based at Avon High School aimed at fostering and cultivating student interest in the fields of engineering and technology. We are one of over 1300 similarly minded teams throughout the world competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition, working together to spread interest in science and engineering, towards the vision of a brighter, more technologically driven future. In recent years, our team's commitment to quality and hard work has paid off, netting us two back-to-back Connecticut Regional Awards, a host of other scrimmage victories, as well as a top ten ranking internationally at the Championship in Atlanta Georgia. However, we couldn't have done all of this alone. Every year the Avon überBots relies on local companies and individuals for their support and it is only through their generous and well-intentioned donations that we have become so successful. If you would like to help, you can do so in the following ways: Monetary Donations: The team, although operated out of Avon High School, receives no funding from the school itself, and so we are always on the look-out for more money. Donations of any quantity are welcome. Tools and Supplies: Being a robotics team, we are always on the lookout for new tools and supplies with which to construct our robot. That being the case, we welcome any donations of the sort, be it raw materials or actual parts. Miscellaneous Items: Every once in a while, the team has raffles and other fundraiser, both to attract publicity and to raise money for the team. As a result, we are always on the look-out for anything of value to auction off, be it coupons, free samples, products, etc. Expertise: The überBots require a wide range of skills in their day-to-day construction and operation of the robot. If you have a talent or skill that you think would be helpful to the team, we would welcome your help. If you have any questions about these categories, have a different way you could help, or are interested in contributing in the ways discussed above, please contact us at avonrobotics@comcast.net. Also, please be aware that the überBots love to give back to those who give to them, through advertising on the back of shirts, on our website, and at our raffles. Once again, we thank you for your interest and time, and hope to be hearing from you in the future. Becoming a Mentor
If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact our team at avonrobotics@comcast.net. We are in need of full-time and part-time mentors, so you may meet up to 6 times per week, or just be on reserve for technical assistance. The FIRST website has some very useful tips on becoming a mentor, specifically for mentoring a FIRST team. For more information, please visit the FIRST website here. |
